A Mechanical Car team member tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. At the direction of our Health & Medical team, the employee has been in self quarantine since 04/03/20. The employee reported experiencing COVID-19 symptoms to his local occupational nurse, initiating a process in Union Pacific’s pandemic response plan. Employee is currently in isolation at home.
Union Pacific Health Department, which is investigating the situation and reaching out to individuals who may have come in extended contact with our employee. It will determine the required quarantine actions we need to take. Approximately 2 team members who were in contact with the employee are currently under quarantine. All areas where the employee worked are being professionally cleaned.
Union Pacific has a robust pandemic response plan to protect our employees. While this is a challenging situation, I am grateful our employee took the first step by letting us know he was experiencing symptoms consistent with a COVID-19 infection. This allowed us to take action and greatly limit further exposure to our team and the community.
