FRA Issues Mask Emergency Order.

The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has issued an emergency order requiring every individual to wear a mask while engaged in railroad operations, with very limited specific exemptions. Union Pacific’s facial covering policy is already consistent with this mandate. The emergency order can be found here. Please review and familiarize yourself with it, and contact your manager with any questions.

Failure to comply with this mandate is a violation of federal law. Employees, including managers, may be subject to FRA enforcement action against them individually, including fines. FRA inspectors may observe railroad employees for compliance. In addition to potentially being subject to FRA enforcement action individually, employees who do not wear a mask when required and fail to do so when instructed may be subject to disciplinary action, including being removed from service and subject to a discipline hearing.

Proper mask wearing has been and continues to be UP policy. It is now federal law.
